Interesting all around. The Burg has a self walking tour with local history and animals that have been preserved.
Cafe/restaurant/beer garden offers good food and drinks. Toilets are modern and clean.
But the absolute highlight is the birds and the show. It was very informative.

Good place for kids and bird show was amazing. Little bit sad by seeing all birds in cages. But castle and place location was amazing. Entry free is about 8 euros and please check show time before going there. There are two show happen in a day, one at 11 and other at 3.30.

We love doing this trip every year. The kids enjoy the show, and it is exciting to see. Staff are kind and so many awesome birds to see. Even with the show being only in German we still have a great time.

The castle offers a pretty cool birds of prey show at 11 am and 3 pm every day except Monday. Entry costs 10 euros for adults and in that price is also included a visit to the small but nonetheless interesting museum.

There's also a restaurant that can only be accessed with an entry ticket to the castle; food is decent but the prices are a tad too much for what is offered and the waitresses seem in a rush to get rid of people as fast as they can.

If in the area, I'd recommend doing a circular hike to all three castle ruins: Rosenburg, Rabenstein, Tachenstein; it takes about an hour and a half and there are great viewpoints.

Excellent excursion outside of Regensburg!
The flight show is definitely a must see. It's in German though, so it helps to have a German friend with you to translate.

It's definitely worth the €8 ticket.
There are only 2 flight shows a day, at 11am and 3pm. The museum is small but informative, included in the ticket price so might as well visit. From up the museum, you can see the beautiful view of the Danube.

Transport: by car or bike, not really close to public transport

Cool attraction for young and old. Didn't know that those birds could be trained. The show was in German. Birds flew very low, mostly almost hit heads of the audiences. Of course there was no accident. It was perfect!

The castle lies on the back of a mountain overlooking the Altmühltal. Built in the 12th century as the ancestral seat of the counts of Riedenburg, the castle was expanded and rebuilt over the course of the next centuries. 1978 the falconry was added, following the noble’s tradition of spending their time with minnesong, and hunting with birds of prey.

We reached the castle by car, parked down below and then headed up to the castle gates. The path is not really steep and it doesn’t take long to reach the wooden doors. After buying a ticket, we walked inside and instantly stood among the birds of prey. Some are in cages, but most sit outside. They also have shows twice a day, but we didn’t make it to one.

The museum is filled with the history of falconry, the castle and the counts of Riedenburg. It isn’t big, the rooms are also rather small, but there are some fantastic padded animals to look at.

Right now, visitors can eat and have drinks in the beer garden; the food looked really good, but due to the weather we just had cake and drinks, which were good as well. If you’re interested in falconry in a fitting surrounding, this castle is worth a visit.
